Home renovation painting services
Ever walked around your place and thought to yourself, "This could use a pick-me-up"? You're definitely not the only one feeling that way. All around Sydney & throughout NSW, people are turning to home renovation painting as one of the easiest & most successful ways to give their old space a new lease on life , boost the value of their property and fall in love with their home all over again.
But the thing is, it's about a lot more than just grabbing a roller & picking a whatever white shade takes your fancy. Whether you're looking to give a Federation in Balmain a bit of TLC, get your family home in Parramatta looking its best, or give an old kitchen in Bondi a fabulous facelift, taking a pro approach to home renovation painting can really make all the difference.
Now lets get down to the nitty-gritty of what really counts when it comes to painting your home for a renovation, from the basics to the bottom line.
Why Paint Matters in Home Renovations
Paint is more than just some colour on the wall. It sets the tone of a space, keeps surfaces in good nick, and in many cases gives your home its character. In our experience, the right paint choice can make a room instantly feel bigger and brighter and just a lot more welcoming. It also does a pretty good job of covering up the everyday blemishes of life - like scuffs on the furniture or little hand prints.
We've got a great example of this on a renovation job in Surry Hills where we took an old narrow terrace that was looking a bit outdated and given it a makeover by switching from a faded yellow cream to a nice new modern grey. The difference was absolutely night and day, the whole space instantly felt bigger and more contemporary - and the owners were absolutely rapt with the result.

Home Renovation Painting Services: What's Included?
When you hear "painting services" for home renovations, it’s not just about slapping on a fresh coat. A proper professional painting service should cover:
Colour Consultation
Surface preparation
Quality paints & materials are the name of the game
Protecting your gear is also part of the package
Paying attention to the small stuff makes all the difference
Attention to detail

Home Renovation Painting vs Standard House Painting
When people hear the word painting, they probably imagine a quick splash of colour on a bedroom wall or a fresh coat on the front door. But home renovation painting is a whole different story to standard house painting.
Here are the key things that make home renovation painting stand out - and why you're going to want to trust the pros to get the job done:
Comprehensive Surface Repairs
Working with Other Trades
Tailored Colour Solutions
Specialised Products and Techniques
Dust, Debris, and Flexibility
Attention to Architectural Details
In a nutshell
Home renovation painting is about making a real transformation, while standard house painting is more about giving your place a bit of a spruce-up. Renovation painting is more detailed, involves more collaboration and requires a bit more strategy, - its all about bringing out the very best in your newly renovated home when you get the pros on board, you get a heap more than just a nice coat of paint.
Home Renovation Painting Ideas
Inspiration for Every Room
Not sure where to start? Here are a few crowd-pleasing ideas that are working wonders in Aussie homes right now:

Light and Bright Neutrals
Perfect for open plan living, these shades make spaces feel bigger and brighter. Think soft whites, gentle greys, and creamy beiges. Great for modern homes and apartments.

Feature Walls
Want a pop of colour? Try a deep navy, forest green, or even a dusty pink on one wall of the living room or bedroom. This is a simple way to add interest without overpowering the room.

Dramatic Dark Tones
Moody colours are making a comeback, especially in master bedrooms and dining rooms. Charcoal, bottle green, and even black can feel surprisingly cosy if paired with the right lighting and décor.

Heritage Looks
If you’re in an older suburb, think Glebe, Paddington, or Newtown, try heritage shades like sage green, burgundy, or mustard. These work beautifully with period features.

Bathroom & Kitchen Updates
Don’t forget these! A splash of waterproof paint, mould-resistant paint can make your kitchen or bathroom feel new again, without the cost of a full renovation.

Outdoor Refresh
Painting the exterior? Go classic (white weatherboards, black trims), bold (midnight blue, deep green), or coastal (seafoam, sand, and pale blue). A fresh coat on the front door can be the finishing touch.

Kids’ Rooms
Let your imagination run wild. Chalkboard paint, murals, or fun colour-blocking make kids’ rooms pop. One client in Lane Cove turned a boring box room into a jungle adventure, and her kids absolutely loved it.

Home Painting Costs For A Home Renovation
"How much is it gonna set me back to give my house a fresh new coat of paint?" is a question that gets asked a lot in Australia, and to be honest, the answer is that it really depends on a few different things.
- How big is the job for a start? Are we talking one room, the whole house, the bit in between, or maybe just the exterior?
- And then there's the paint job itself. Are you going for a simple one coat job or are you wanting to add some extra colour with feature walls or a bold new look? And what about if you're going from dark to light - that's gonna require a few more coats as well.
- Another thing to consider is the state of the place - the older the house, the more work is usually needed to get it ready for a new coat of paint. Cracks, peeling paint, damp issues - that sort of thing.
- You also gotta think about what kind of finish you're after. Are you going for a matte, satin or glossy look? Each one of those will cost you a bit more or less.
- And finally, there's the height and accessibility factor to think about - two storey homes, stairwells and high ceilings are all gonna add a bit more time to the job.

How Much Do Painters Charge Per Day?
How Much Does It Cost to Hire a Painter
Rough Guide for Sydney 2025: (Prices may vary of course, but this is a rough idea)
Painting one room: $400 - $1,000
Painting three bedrooms: $4,000 - $8,000
Painting the whole house (inside and out): $8,000 - $20,000 (or maybe a bit more, who knows!)
Keep in mind that these are just rough estimates, and if your job is a bit more complicated than average (like if you need to fix some plaster or get rid of some old wallpaper for example) then you can expect to pay a bit more. Honestly, the cheapest quote isn't always the best option - it's usually worth getting a few different quotes from different painters so you can compare the prices, the work they'll do and the time it'll take, and go from there.

Renovation Painting Case Study

Case Study 1: Federation Terrace in Surry Hills, Bringing it all up to date
Project Background
As part of a rather large renovation project, we were brought on board to give the exterior and interior of this Federation-style terrace in Surry Hills a bit of a make-over. The owners were keen to do some work to refresh the outside and bring the inside up to speed, all while keeping hold of its original character.
Challenges
The place was in a bit of disarray, several of the interior walls had big cracks in them and were looking a bit the worse for wear with peeling paint. Several interior walls have cracks and peeling paint.
You can imagine how delicate the fretwork and heritage trims are - so we knew we had to handle them with kid gloves.
The exterior surfaces had been battered by the weather over the years and were looking a bit worse for wear.
The owners were still living in the place, so we had to make sure we didn't disrupt them too much - I mean, we had to keep the disruption to an absolute minimum.
Our Approach
We started by doing a thorough tidy-up of all the surfaces, using stain-blocking primers to get rid of any unwanted stains. We fixed up the cracks and chipped off all the loose and failing paint. Then we carefully hand-sanded and sealed the heritage timber trims to protect their look and feel. To make life as easy as possible for the household, we worked room by room - covering the floors and furniture in each room as we went along. That way, the household could just carry on their daily routine without too much hassle.
Outcomes
The end result is that the place has been transformed, inside and out. The exterior has got a nice fresh look, and it's all still very much in the style of the Federation era. And inside, the colour scheme flows beautifully from room to room. The restored trims are a big feature now, and the homeowners are over the moon that we managed to get the whole thing done on time, without too much disruption to their lives.

Case Study 2: A Fresh New Look for an Open-Plan Apartment Renovation in Bondi
Project Background
We were brought on board to paint the interior of an apartment in Bondi that was in the middle of a top-to-bottom renovation. The floor had just been refinished, the cabinets were brand new, and the lighting had been totally overhauled so we got to come in and put the icing on the cake with a fresh coat of paint. The client wanted a light, airy feel that was perfect for the coastal vibe that this beautiful apartment deserved.
Challenges
Getting a handle on the weird mix of old and new surfaces - some new plasterboard, some older painted walls that needed a whole lot of TLC
Getting the cut-ins just right around all the shiny new cabinets, fixtures and hardware - precision is key in this kind of work
Working against the clock was another challenge - the client was itching to move back in and we had to get the job done pronto
Our Method
We've got some guys who specialise in co-ordinating with the other trades - so we made sure we were all working off the same page when it came to the scheduling. We masked everything up to protect it, fixed up any of the old walls that were in pretty bad shape, and gave the new plasterboard a good coat of primer to make sure it was ready for paint. We chose some really low VOC eco-friendly paints to keep the air inside the apartment nice and fresh, and applied two coats to give it that fresh new look. We even did all of the edges by hand so we could get those crisp clean lines around the cabinetry and trim.
Results
We transformed this drab ol' apartment into a bright, beautiful space that the client could just move right on into. The new paint job made the joinery look amazing and really made the most of that open-plan design. The client was over the moon when they saw it - and we got it done on time, no less.

Case Study 3: Giving a Parramatta Home a Kitchen & Bathroom Makeover, Dealing with High-Moisture Pain Points
Project Background
We got the call to give a suburban Parramatta house a much-needed new coat of paint in the kitchen and bathroom as part of an ongoing renovation project. Years of constant steam and moisture had turned the old paint into a sad, peeling mess, and the owners just wanted a fresh, durable solution that'd hold up to the wear and tear.
Challenges
We were dealing with seriously persistent moisture and humidity that was causing the old paint to peel and creating nasty mould spots everywhere
High-traffic areas around the splashbacks and cabinetry were taking a real beating, so we needed finishes that could withstand the daily wear and tear
Trying to get all the tradespeople working together - we had tilers and plumbers on site who were already halfway through their jobs - was another challenge altogether
Our Solution
We started by trying to figure out where the moisture was coming from and treating all the affected areas - we even had to apply some mould-resistant primers in a few spots. In the kitchen, we gave the surfaces a good deep clean before applying some stain-blocking undercoats. For both the kitchen and bathroom, we used special paints that're designed to handle steam and stains and can take a beating from frequent cleaning. And to finish it all off, we made sure to get all the edges looking neat and tidy against the tiles and cabinetry.
Results
The kitchen and bathroom got a complete makeover, and now they look and feel fresh and bright and can handle daily life without any problems. We fixed all the issues with peeling paint and staining and somehow managed to get the new paint to blend in perfectly with the new cabinetry and tiling. We knocked it all out on schedule and gave the owners a solid workmanship warranty that they can rely on.
Why Sydney Homes Need a Better Painting Job During the Renovation
A great renovation isn't just about how it looks for the first week. Its about whether it will still be intact down the track. And in Sydney, well it's a pretty tricky place.
A lot of people just don't get how Sydney's climate works. But the truth is its not a one-size-fits-all deal. You can't use the same paint job in Bondi that you would in say Blacktown. That's why you sometimes see peeling roofs, cracked weatherboards, and painting that just doesn't look quite right. And its not always because the painter didn't do a good job, often its because of the local conditions.
At Painters Link, we don't take a stab in the dark. We work out the specific conditions in your area, the amount of sun and wind and dust you get - before we decide on the right paint system.
Coastal Areas: The Salt and Moisture Menace
(Bondi, Manly, Mosman, Cronulla)
If your home is near the coast, salt air is constantly seeping in - even on the driest of days. And that leads to moisture, dampness and all sorts of trouble with standard paints.
So how do we do things differently?
We use special marine-grade paints that are resistant to salt damage. And we're sticklers for the right drying times - that means waiting a good 5-7 days after cleaning before we start painting. Cutting corners will get you nowhere fast.
Western Sydney: Heat, UV and Movement
(Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith)
Out in the west it's all about the sun beating down and surface movement as the day wears on. Over time the paint dries out and cracks and before long you're looking at peeling paint.
Our secret?
We use special elastomeric paints that stretch and move with the house as it expands and contracts. They create a flexible waterproof layer that'll last.
Across Sydney: Humidity Matters More Than You Think
Humidity levels in Sydney are pretty high, 65 to 75% most of the time. And that can really affect how paint dries. Rushing to recoat can leave you with streaky surfaces and long-term problems.
So how do we fix that?
We keep a close eye on the site conditions and adjust our drying times to get it just right. No guesswork. Just a top-notch finish that stays looking good for years to come.
The Bottom Line
Painting in Sydney is not just about picking the right colour - its about understanding the local conditions that will be beating your home every day.
At Painters Link, we're not just painting for the sake of it - we're painting to get it right. So your home looks good for the long haul.
